Get some microfiber cloths. I get mine at Sam's Club; a bundle of 24 is less than $10 and you will never use a sponge, dish rag or cloth again! They clean better, absorb better, do everything better!

They have a lot of loops and those loops get into the surface texture a whole heck of a lot better. Unless you're dealing with a grease issue, I'd use just a general all purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. If you're dealing with a grease issue; then Simple Green is the way to go.

It actually helps to use a two bucket method. One bucket has the cleaner and water in it with it's own cloth. Scrub down the wall with that. Then follow with the second bucket which has nothing but clean water and another cloth. This helps prevent streaking that some cleaners leave.

Another great thing about the microfiber cloths is that they last a long time. When they get dirty, you toss them in the washer and dryer (no fabric softener) and they are ready to go again!
I use Soft Scrub on my walls.
