How can I wash a wall that has flat paint without leaving wipe marks?

My office walls have smudge marks that look white on the dark blue paint. Any time I touch the walls I leave a mark. (Paint was here when I bought the house ;) Any ideas? How can I wash a wall that has flat paint without leaving wipe marks?
You will have to wash the whole wall, and when it dries, it should all look the sameHow can I wash a wall that has flat paint without leaving wipe marks?
Mr. Clean has a small sponge looking cleaning pad it is incredible for cleaning flat walls. If the wall is really messed up it is easy to just go get the paint and paint over. Save time and hassle.

What's a good product for washing painted walls?

I used to use Murphy's Oil Soap to periodically wash the interior walls of my house, but I can not find it here in Australia. I've looked around at the supermarket, but can't seem to find a good safe product for washing my painted walls. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? ThanksWhat's a good product for washing painted walls?
Plain White Vinegar and water mix about fifty/fifty ratio then put in a empty clean spray bottle and just spray and wipe walls this will clean off dirt and smudges marks and all without the use of bucket and mops and spongesWhat's a good product for washing painted walls?

You can use TSP or it may be known as Sugar Soap in some places.

I like to use Baking Soda and you can combine it with vinegar for more cleaning power.

Another good one is to use White Toothpaste (not gel) on hard to clean spots...it will get a variety of things off the walls and even gets crayon off of sofas (personal expierence there)

Um, liquid dish soap is good for an all over cleaning. I have used Murphy's oil soap on a variety of things like wood cabinets but, have not tried it on walls. I migth have to now.

You can also use Fels Napatha Soap for a variety of cleaning projects...including Laundry (which is what it was originally made for) but, I have used it on other things as well.
Here's a homemade solution - the ammonia helps cut any greasy residue on walls, esp. in or near the kitchen:

Homemade Cleaning Solution

Ingredients:

1 gallon warm water

1/2 cup ammonia

1/4 cup white vinegar

1/4 cup baking soda

Combine the ingredients in a bucket.

Place the drop cloth on the floor underneath the wall.

Dip the sponge in the homemade solution until it's thoroughly wet.

Start at the bottom of the wall and be sure to move the sponge in a circular motion. Be sure to rinse the sponge regularly.

Note: It's best to start at the bottom of the wall because runs are easier to clean.

Never stop washing in the middle of the wall. Keep washing across the entire wall to eliminate any ';tide'; marks (figure B), which can show right where you started or stopped.
Things You鈥檒l Need:

Dry-sponges

Liquid Dish Soap

Soft-bristled Brush

Sponges

Terry Cloth Towels

Old Newspapers

2 Buckets

Ladders

Step1

Protect your floors with newspapers or towels.

Step2

Brush cobwebs and dust from the wall with a soft-bristled brush.

Step3

Remove any remaining dirt with a dry-sponge - a rubber sponge available at most hardware stores. Rub the dry-sponge along the wall to lift dirt from it.

Step4

Fill a bucket about three-quarters full with warm water.

Step5

Add a small amount of dish soap - about as much as it takes to clean a sink full of dishes - to the bucket. This will be the cleaning bucket.

Step6

Place a second, empty bucket near the cleaning bucket. (You'll use this when you wring out the cleaning sponge.)

Step7

Dip a small portion of the flat face of a sponge into the cleaning bucket until it is damp.

Step8

Spread the cleaning solution on the wall with the sponge, beginning at the top and working toward the bottom. Use a ladder to reach the high spots on the wall.

Step9

Squeeze - but do not wring out - the sponge over the empty bucket after wetting the entire surface of the wall.

Step10

Blot the surface of the wall you've just cleaned to lift any further dirt from its surface.

Step11

Repeat this process until you have covered the wall.

Step12

Dry the wall using a terry cloth towel.
Tri Sodium Phosphate, TSP the stuff works like a miracle on walls it even got red candle dye out of my light beige wool carpet. I washed my walls because it's supposed to be a paint prep and the wall looked so good I didn't have to paint and I was cleaning soot off as I burned wood the stuff is amazing and you can buy it in a hardware store and it's really inexpensive. Cleans everything including built up grease.
Trisodium phosphate (TSP), available at most hardware stores in white powder form, is a cleaning agent, stain remover and degreaser, commonly used to prepare surfaces for painting.

Any tips for pressure washing outdoor walls?

We need to wash the outside of our house - It's paint over siding, 2 story, painted 7 years ago but the paint looks new (Sherwin Williams Duration). Any tips you've got to offer? Is there a threshold of pressure above which the paint will be stripped off? What are good detergents or chemicals for green mold? thanks!Any tips for pressure washing outdoor walls?
try a test spot with Tide laundry soap a soft brush and the garden hose. I don't think you'll need to use a pressure washer. the wetting agents in the soap should help rinse without streaking. If the mold is on your siding the tide should work well. If it's on the interior you need to disinfect with a product like Lysol and control humidityAny tips for pressure washing outdoor walls?
Rent a sprayer with large nozzle for high areas and mix ';JO MAX HOUSE CLEANER'; (found in most wal-marts) with bleach and water (1cup of JO MAX %26amp; 1 cup bleach to 2 gallons water). Spray area to be clean and let soak for approx 2 minutes than power wash. If it did not clean as good let soak for 4 min than power wash. Do not force power washer to clean by placing washer inches away from wall. It will definitely peel the paint away. Been there done that. Place wand of washer approx 18'; or more from surface. The key is to provide more cleaning solution not power. Good Luck.
I have never pressure washer painted siding, but i have used a pressure washer, i own one, all i can tell you is if was me i won't do it, i know the damage a pressure washer can do, i will advice you, to do it with a regular hose, and scrub the mold off, it will take more time but it will save you from repainting the siding if it gets damage, good luck

I had the green mildew problem too. A couple days ago I took a pump up sprayer and mixed bleach and water 50/50 and sprayed it. This kills the mold/mildew. Carfeul with a pressure washer you can strip the paint off if you get too close.
Get a garden hose and some biodegradable soap.
Make sure you wear some kind of eye protection when doing that job.

What do you use to wash mold off of walls?

A 50-50 mix of bleach and water should get rid of it.

BUT if you have mold on the outside of your wall, you could have it inside your walls. Especially if the mold comes back quickly. If thats the case the mold needs to be torn out and replaced.

You should have a professional come in and look at it. Some places will do free or low cost estimates for you. What do you use to wash mold off of walls?
I use Clorox clean-up. (Yes the cheap stuff works just as good...buy off brand.) The bleach kills the mold. Depends on the wall. It might hurt the wall if your not careful.

You might try spraying it on small areas at a time and then have a bucket of clean water to wipe it off immediately. That should help a lot. What do you use to wash mold off of walls?
Bleach/water solution and let the wall dry out and always keep a window or door open in that room. Mold will not return.
Bleach, but if it got up inside the walls you need to have the affected area cut out %26amp; replaced.
Depends on sort of mould. Soapy water, then wipe dry usually works. If damp is the cause, find the source and remedy that.
    CLOROX AND WATER DELUTE IT

When housecleaning, do you wash your walls?

Why %26amp; how? When housecleaning, do you wash your walls?
Just use soap and water. Usually, the only walls in your house that will need cleaning are in the kitchen where food splatters a lot. If you look closely at the fronts of the cupboards below waist level, you'll usually notice a lot of food spots.

If there's a smoker in the house, all the walls will be tinted yellow. You won't notice it until you start washing it off and see the color underneath. When housecleaning, do you wash your walls?
If I am in the mood I do, or if there is something on them, probably once a month I will clean the walls, I get 2 Magic Erasers w/ Febreeze (Mr. Clean) and get them wet... go walking around rubbing the walls down with them 2 Hands 2 Erasers works much faster. They are amazing.
absolutely - but usually only around door frames. and doors too. and only a few times a year. dirt and grime build up on those areas too. just like any other surface. personally, i just use a damp rag. that seems to do it. maybe a little dish soap for darker (dirtier) areas.
No not really. If there is a dirt spot or something i was my walls with soap in water, and the walls that are white i was with bleach and water. If you have a very hard spot to get out i recommend mr clean dry magic eraser. Or goo gone!
No, not unless there is a mark or something. But walls do get dusty and to take care of that you can use the swiffer sweeper with the cloths. It works really fast and doesnt let dust fly around everywhere.

If your talking about your old place check with the manager before you start doing anything. They usually expect you to empty the apartment entirely of your belongings.. and the frig should be clean and the bathroom.

They usually shampoo the rugs after you leave. if you have lived there more than a year they will most likely paint the place again. So dont' worry about walls unless they are really bad. The manager will tell you what to do and what not to do.

Mix Murphy's Oil Soap (reasonably enviromentally friendly) with warm water in a spray bottle, add a few drops lavender oil and tea tree oil, and 2-3 teaspoons white vinegar. Works great on my greasy stainless steel stove. Spray, walk away, and come back to wipe in a few minutes. Be sure to test whatever you're using it on... I don't know its effect on paint.
Citra-Solv. It's an incredible cleaner that can be diluted to various strengths depending on the use. I swear by it, and have used it for years. It has the added bonus of a pleasant citrus fragrance AND no toxic smell.

The only cleaner that I find is the best and leaves no streaks or residue behind is Hertel. You can buy the liquid Hertel in a green bottle at most big stores, such as Walmart, Target or Kmart. You only need one capful with a bucket of water. I also use it to wash my windows, it works great
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is good for small stains. Otherwise, a sponge and soapy water will do the trick. Always test a small area in a non-visible spot to make sure that whatever soap you're using won't ruin the wall.
Mr clean magic eraser works...I worked in a day care at church and I used it all the time! you can use it on the fridge bathrooms, kitchen, and counters. ;)
I agree with the TSP answer, hands down the best cleaner to prep for painting, wallpaper, etc.
    TSP - Trisodium Phosphate.

one of the greatest inventions of our time, oxy clean. okay, i tried this stuff years ago when it first came out and it didn't do squat. turns out i didn't read the instructions right. it must be activated by hot water. you don't have to do your wash with only hot water, but you must activate is with a little hot water, then add a couple of drops of dish detergent to your spray bottle and you will be so amazed at how it eats through grime. i found out that oxy clean is just dehydrated hydrogen peroxide {and yes you can use the hydrogen peroxide that comes already hydrated but it is easier to store the dehydrate because the container is smaller}. i use if for laundry, blood stains, pet stains, even in by carpet cleaner. it won't eat fabric like bleach will and is able to cut through many things that detergents alone can't
A mild dish detergent with warm water works nicely. Also, Borax is nice.
The first answer was right--TSP. I've used it quite often. It's great. Just remember to wear rubber gloves. It's great if you're repainting and don't know what type of paint is already on the wall. It primes the old paint so you can paint over it with any type of pain (e.g. latex over oil-based).
using a sponage mop, a bucket , dish soap and a capful of bleach.

fill bucket with 3/4 of warm water,. Squirt of dish soap (DAWN) and bleach.

dip the sponage mop in water, then wash off wall in an up and down motion.

do it with lots of water on the mop this way the entire wall gets soak.

be ready to mop-up the floor afterwards as well.
I don't recommend Mr. Clean magic erasers because they contain chemicals that have been found to cause cancer (and especially not at a daycare!). Oxy clean or borax are better alternatives. I'm going to try the mop next time!
The kids with hands and elbows who put the stains there and give them that Mr clean eraser magic or oxy clean it does the trick with a little elbow action
Fantastic in a spray bottle. Spray a section at a time by rubbing it on with a sponge. Then rinse sponge in clean water and go over the section again.

For very dirty walls, repeat process until each layer of dirt is removed.

Knocking in walls when hot water is on, when I flush the toilets, or when I wash clothes upstairs.?

The other day the pipes froze and since they thawed and the water started back running I have been hearing a loud knock and water is not coming out consistently. Its spurting out with each knock??? Hard to take a shower because it will knock the shower off.Knocking in walls when hot water is on, when I flush the toilets, or when I wash clothes upstairs.?
sounds like the builder didn't put a strap on a water line and the pressure from the water causes the pipe to sway causing the noise when it hits the wall.Knocking in walls when hot water is on, when I flush the toilets, or when I wash clothes upstairs.?
air in the lines you may need to install an expansion chamber to your plumbing system they're available at most home centers and pretty easy to install
Definitely air in the lines. Open all the taps until it stops...

Or you could have Gremlins. Don't give them food after midnight and never get them wet!
you have air pockets in the water lines.. The knocking will continue till all the air is out. Try opening all taps and running the water for awhile. This will get any air out of all lines
/Since the pipes were frozen, it sounds like there could either be a cracked pipe somewhere that's blocking the water flow or maybe some parts that are still frozen. Also, did you check the filters on your faucets? They may be clogged. Sometimes after the water's been off or not flowing through, when it flows again, all kinds of gunk gets loose and gets trapped in the filters on the faucets. Happened with me recently. After the plumber fixed a broken pipe, we had to clean all the faucets and shower head. Good luck.
Air in the pipes, have them bled.

    duh
You might need to get your pipes replaced. Because if there is leaking water, that could cause water damage and then lead to mold problems, and you dont want that. So fix the problem now while its still small.

I used TSP. I can't remember what the letters stand for but it removes grease, oil, sooty dirt and prepares painted surfaces for repainting. It's reasonably priced and a little goes a long way. I purchased it at Home Depot. IT comes in a powder form you mix with water or a liquid already diluted brand.

    Here's a link

    http://housewares.hardwarestore.com/35-1鈥?/a>
Go to any hardware store and ask for TSP. This stuff is amazing. It takes nicotine, grease, you name it off your walls.

You will have to paint as it takes the gloss and finish off your walls. Each time I paint I clean the walls with TSP then use the primer.

    Have fun
Go to the paint store, like lowes or Home depot and ask them. They make a water soluble wall cleaner that is safe. I used to paint for a living years ago, but can't recall what it's called. It works real well on water base paint.

Pregnant or not, average household detergents are dangerous! Cancer causing, allergy triggering, and all that fun stuff. Try switching to vinegar and baking soda (don't mix, put baking soda down and then spray with vinegar - GREAT cleaner. Add essential oil for a pretty smell.). Its cheaper and better for you. For cleaning walls, you can use vinegar, but I've found that the Magic Eraser will clean just about anything!

How do I prepare walls and/or trim for repainting (same color)? Do I wash with plain water? Soap and water?

Usually, washing them with dish soap and water, then rinsing, is good enough. If they're really greasy, you'll want to buy some TSP (trisodium phosphate). You can probably find it at stores like WalMart, but paint stores always have it. It's a powdered soap and it's super strong. It's been used for years by painters to clean greasy areas. How do I prepare walls and/or trim for repainting (same color)? Do I wash with plain water? Soap and water?
You are thinking ahead. Most people just paint over the old paint. You can either use just plain water, or soap and water. Be sure to let the walls completely dry before applying the paint.

    industry standard

    maybe wear rubber gloves
You can just remove the loose surface dirt, use a good primer (kilz) and repaint.
enamel paint, just about anything will work. Semi-gloss, use simple -green, it works on everything. It will not stain the floors or carpet if you get it on them. If no carpet, or wood floor, use clorax kitchen cleanup.
It really depends on What kind of walls are u trying to wash...Wallpaper, paint, plaster.?

If they are painted walls I would buy a sealer, primer and paint it on and then repaint them...More work, but might be worth it

If you dont want to do that I would, use 409, grease lightning. When you start cleaning them and see the paint is coming off, you will have to repaint them. I`m thinking maybe you can buy paint with a good primer or sealer in it already... You might call Lowes or Wal-Mart and ask them

    Latex flat:

This type of paint, which is a pretty common household paint, is not as washable as enamel paints. When you use heavy-duty cleaners or scrub the surface hard, you run the risk of removing the paint along with any dirt. Be sure to use mild detergents and gentle scrubbing, and don't let any solution sit on the surface for more than a minute.
    Bleach water.
    TSP
Washing old walls may be harmful or you could be washing them with something toxic if paint contains lead. (like bleach, ammonia, etc...) Your best bet would be to cover all the grime with a paint called ';zinzers';, covers even grease stains, works wonderfully. Then if real bad, apply two coats and then paint with a washable paint.
Whatever you use, make sure you have ventilation and masks.
Murphy's Oil-- organic cleaner - and elbow grease.
It depends on what the walls are made of. Plaster? Paneling?
    how about sand paper?

    how about just repainting?
use a pressure washer and a lot of soap
I always use warm water with a little pine-sol type cleaner mixed in.

Colour washing walls in new house, what colours would work best?

Im about to move into a new apartment, the walls are currently bland neutrals. And I want to spice it up a bit, the feel I am going for is like the glow of candle light. So warm, yellowish/orange tones for the living room and bedroom (although red could be an option but could I tone it down with some goldenish tones some how?). The bedroom will have a more Morrocan/Asian feeling. The bathroom I would like to paint more a vibirant aqua, with a ceiling made to look like the sky (I know electic tastes). The kitchen is stark white currently, and I was thinking more a muted mango? There is also a hallway and spare bedroom to think about.

Which the current colour and themes Im going for (dramatic, yet soft, glowing, and bright/happy in the bathroom). What would work best?

I love the look of colour washing. So what could I do?

    The bedroom could have an accent wall in ';blood red';. The remaining walls in a butter white. Kitchens are always best is a muted white as are the hallways. The living room could be a muted llight brown or light grey. Check the sites;

Dawn dish soap, warm water, and a rag that you can throw away. The ceiling may need washed too. Be sure to clean your floors as well! Good luck and tell your boyfriend on congrats on kicking such a hard to beat habit! How to wash cigarette smoke off flat white walls?
A small box of Arm %26amp; Hammer washing soda and some vinegar. Just dump about a cup of vinegar and a handful of the washing soda in a bucket and added hot water. This will remove the nicotine and get them as close to white again. It works a lot better than commerical cleaners.

DO U NEED TO WASH WALLS BEFORE PAINTING AND PRIMING?

Read the label on the primer. Some primers say NOT to use TSP for cleaning. But yes, you should wash the wall before priming and painting, otherwise they won't stick. Especially if you are painting a kitchen. The grease on the walls will make the paint slide off. DO U NEED TO WASH WALLS BEFORE PAINTING AND PRIMING?
    Wash with TSP.

    Prime.

    Paint.

I am moving to a new house and I was wondering do I have to wash the walls if i'm going to paint anyway?

    YES, you do have to.

Most people don't wash all of the walls before painting, but washing the walls before painting them is KEY for a beautiful end result.

Washing the walls in the kitchen is for obvious reasons - think of the grease, gunk and junk you'd be painting over! Not pretty.

And as for the bedroom, living room, etc... walls DO get dirty - EVEN if they were never around little kids, pets or smoke. Dust accumulates, and if you paint over the dust, your paint is likely to flake out and/or look ashy! Yikes.

And another tip: In the bathroom, look for waterproof wallpaper or a durable paint that will stand up to the humidity of the shower. Then you won't be left with those shimmering 'drips' and 'runs' on the walls.

I know all this b/c I wanted to know the answer to the very question you just asked, so I did some research.

(And one more thing, once you're done with you're lovely paint job, and your walls get dirty in the future, do the opposite of what you've always done with cleaning. Instead of cleaning top to bottom, clean your walls BOTTOM TO TOP~this prevents the dirty water from running downward, staining your walls further. Wet dirt is more difficult to get off then the dry dirt/dust. (Atleast when it comes to walls.)

Good luck!I am moving to a new house and I was wondering do I have to wash the walls if i'm going to paint anyway?
If they're dirty, you should wash them before you paint them because if you don't, the paint won't look so good. Home Depot sells products for just such a purpose in their paint department.I am moving to a new house and I was wondering do I have to wash the walls if i'm going to paint anyway?
you might want to wash the walls to be on the safe side. If there was a smoker that lived there previously, the nicotene wlll seep through the paint, and youll have more work on your hands.
If it is a new house does that mean it has never been used? If not you might just need to pole sand the walls and ceiling first. You do not have to wash the walls unless the joint compound needs to be either removed or leveled.
After watching the painter do my place, the trick is in the preparation and the painting is the easy part. Washing walls will ensure grease is removed and paint will last longer. Otherwise you're painting over grime and it's still there

    :-)
    The kitchen walls, definitely.

I would think seriously about washing the others to, because you never know what might be on them...greasy hand prints, candle wax (this one happened to me)....

Good luck with your new place!
kitchen grease on the walls yes other use your own judgment
as a home improvement contractor my advice is to wash all the walls you are going to paint also if you have time giving them a light sanding will help prevent paint flaking
Use a broom and knock down any cobwebs first, then go ahead and paint.Painting will cover any handprints and it kills germs.
I'd say yes, there will be dust and crap on the walls. If there is any greasy, oily areas your paint could possibly peel off.

You also need to check whether oil based or water based paint was used in previous paintjobs, it's best to stick with the same type of paint for new coats.
You should wash all the walls in the new house. I know you're painting anyway, but if you want the paint to stick properly, you'll want to wash them first. I highly suggest you wash them with liquid TSP (which you'll find at any home hardware store). Don't use the powder version: it's toxic, hard to rinse and hard to mix. You won't have to rinse the liquid version and it will remove any grease, grime, dirt, stains, etc. Invest (small investment, don't worry!) in a flat head mop. You can easily wash the walls with this without having to climb a ladder... it makes life much easier with a flat head mop!

If you don't want to wash all of the walls, then at least do the kitchen and bathroom walls. That's a must. Oh..if the people who lived there before smoked, then you'll need to do all the walls, as nicotine will leak thru your new paint.

Also, one last thing: if you aren't sure of the type of paint on the walls now (are they latex or oil based???) then you'll want to prime the walls with an oil based primer. I suggest Bull's Eye 1-2-3. If the paint on the walls is oil based, latex won't stick to it. However, an oil-based primer will stick to anything and anything will stick to oil-based primer (as it is partly made of glue).

    Congratulations on the new home!
Yes. There is a special product from the paint store to use for this-inquire with the staff. Clean walls will make the painting better. Especially, if the previous owners were smokers-the water will probably be very dirty after you have finished cleaning the walls!

How do you wash soot from agas fireplace off the walls and ceiling paint?

My mother used a mixture of vinegar and water, it cleaned EVERYTHING!!

Good luckHow do you wash soot from agas fireplace off the walls and ceiling paint?
To remove the soot coating on a painted wall go to the hardware store and buy a quart of odorless kerosene and wet down a cotton rag ( old T shirt is best) and wipe the soot off.

The ceiling is another problem. I assume its a texture and it has not been latex painted. So you are pretty much stuck in in sealing that damaged area over with a primer and then painting the whole ceiling.

Be careful on the ceiling, if you try washing it down you will smooth out the texture so go the prime and paint route.

    bleach and warm water
I do alot of painting and primer and paint is the only way to eliminate them that I know of . Keep in mind that flat paint , which is commonly used on inside walls is unwashable satin or semigloss can be washed by taking a larrge sponge and bucket and wiping ,rinse sponge and wipe again but the results ccould vary along the wall and you end up looking worse than if you leave them alone. My advise is to back off this one and tell them they cannot be washed to the level that yo would like them to be so you would prefer not to
My parents both smoked and we add an annual 'wash the walls' day. We used ammonia and water, but the real secret is to rinse OFTEN with clean water. Change the water in your bucket as soon as it gets dirty. Most of the discoloration comes of quickly, but it can be streaky. You will have better results if the paint is semi gloss rather than flat paint. Flat paint often washes off as quickly as the dirt. Good luck!
i would try a bleach and hot water solution
I can suggest sugar soap, I would麓t use bleach it will only cause the paint to turn more yellow than they are already. I also suggest you wash one wall, see how it turn麓s out. If the wall麓s are so damaged by the smoke , they will have to be painted again.

I would use dish soap and water with a cup of bleach.

Do the best you can as smoke ruins houses almost beyond fixing. I have my own cleaning service and I will not clean houses that are contaminated by smoke. I always tell the customers to rip out all carpet and draperies. Then the walls must be sprayed with bleach allowed to dry and then painted several times to cover the staining of smoke.

All else fails go to a quality paint store for advice on the right paint to cover the smell and staining.

You can cover the walls you want to tag with foam core, you can stick it up with 3M removable 2 sided tape. It will take paint well and when you move out you can take it with your or dispose of them.

Can you wash down the 2x4 wood that supports interior walls with bleach to remove mold?

I have torn the walls out of a room in my home because of mold and moisture issues. I have removed the moldy insulation and fixed the moisture problems. (wearing a mask and other protective gear of course). There are a few of the 2 x 4 boards that support the wall that have a little bit of mold on them but other than that they are not damaged. Can I wash them off with a bleach water solution and keep them in place or do I have to tear them out and replace them altogether? Can you wash down the 2x4 wood that supports interior walls with bleach to remove mold?
There is no need to replace the studs in your repair.

There are commercial products (including bleach) that will kill the active mold. Of equal importance is mitigating the contributors to the mold problem.

Mold needs three things to thrive: Darkness (can't help this inside a wall), Food (the wood is the food- can't help this), and Moisture. Addressing the moisture will prevent future mold issues.

Mold reproduces through spores, so a VERY thorough cleaning of the area before sealing that wall back up will be to your advantage.

Best of luck. Can you wash down the 2x4 wood that supports interior walls with bleach to remove mold?
I have done this. But I used strait bleach in a garden sprayer to treat the 2x4s. I treated them when I first uncovered them. Then I sprayed them again before I put the new insulation in. Its been 5 years and the mold has not come back. Use safety glasses and a mask and old clothes. when spraying.
On a porous product like wood the mold might go deeper that the bleach will penetrate. The chlorine will also evaporate in hours or days and have no residual effect. Better to use an antifungal treatment specifically designed to do the job. I'm no engineer but if the studs are physically sound I cannot see any reason to tear them out if the mold removal is successful.
There is a type of sealer that you can buy for this kind of situation (I don't know the name of it) but, yes,,you can wash it with bleach.
    Leave the studs.

Lowes sells a concentrate ';inhibitive'; mold wash that mixes with bleach. Inhibitive means it will penetrate the wood surface. When applied, the mold can be wiped off right away while the chemical continues to penetrate into the wood.

    Good luck !
Yes use bleach it kills all mold if you want you can paint with a product called KILL'S get it at any diy stores that's after you bleach and let dry

You don't have to since it has the primer already in it, but if there's any kind of grease or anything like that I would suggest doing it. Behr Ultra paint is awesome. I worked at Home Depot and went to a class over the new paint. It is really good.Do I NEED to wash down my walls before painting if I use BERH paint?
Paint will cover and stick to a lot of dirt, but...if it is loose, like dust, or greasy, like cooking oil, then you need to remove it first. Also some stains bleed..ie magic marker, lip stick and these need to be sealed

How do you wash mold off walls?

I've gotten mold off our garage walls buy mixing Environmental Bleach (usually you can find it at Home Depot if it's not at your supermarket) with warm water in a ratio of 1/3 bleach to 2/3 water. I use a boat scrubbing brush to wash down the concrete blockwork but for the walls I took a sponge mop that I would normally use on the floor to wash down the walls. Be careful with the bleach mixture inside as it can harm colored carpets. Spread drop cloths in your work area and use rubber gloves. How do you wash mold off walls?
Bleach or a solution with a mildewcide in it should be a quick fix. I don't think that will solve the problem though. If your walls are turning black, there is an underlying miosture problem in your home.I'm afraid that no amount of scrubbing is going to permantly remove the mold if this is the case. Beware some species of household molds are toxic. How do you wash mold off walls?
I work for a redistribution center and we sell a product called Restrain. It is actually a 2 step process. The first product, Restrain #1 is to kill the existing mold. The second step Restrain #2 is a mold inhibitor. It prevents it from coming back. Once you get rid of it and use an inhibitor it shouldn't ever come back. I am pretty sure this product is made up of mostly hydrogen peroxide. You might be able to mix something up on your own. Good luck!
    i would use bleach ...
bleach, mixed with water. but not too diluted. and let it soak. scrub it.
';Clorox'; if the mold is heavy use a brush.Make sure you wash down walls good after. Good Luck!!

Do I need to wash my walls?

I live in a brand new place. I've had 2 house warming parties which resulted in two consecutive Saturdays where I let 2 people smoke. Should I wash the walls from those 2 nights, or does it take a lot more?Do I need to wash my walls?
Not from just 2 people. Maybe use some Fabreeze on the curtains.Do I need to wash my walls?
when my house was smoking i would wash my walls with water and little bleach bc the smoke darkens the paint on the walls, so to keep the true color of the paint i would or else they just end up looking dull, but it doesnt matter unless you clean the whole house bc smoke clings to any porous materials(couches, towels, curtains, etc..), so why dont you save the trouble and put the smokers outside if they want to smoke? its their sacrifice not yours.
You shouldn't have to wash your walls, already. But to keep them clean, plus your drapes and furniture from smelling like smoke, I would ask your visitors, to please smoke outside. We don't allow smoking in our house. Our cars either. Everyone knows that and respect our wishes.
If you are in a newly constructed place be careful about washing walls with soap and water. Some paints will come off because they are either--cheap or just a primer coat.
It takes a lot more than that...
I don't smoke but I can smell it from hear

Fill a bucket with some hot soapy water. Use a sponge mop, and very lightly go up and down from the floor to the ceiling, going in rows, kind of like mowing the lawn. After three or four rows, rinse the mop and go back to where you stopped. Don't mop or scrub too hard because the paint could fade or come off. If the water gets too dirty, change it out. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid. My sister-in-law uses Mr. Clean.

Any marks that don't come off after using this method can be removed with the Mr.Clean Magic Eraser.
Sure just use a mild cleanser so that you dont leave any residue left behind. Murphys Oil Soap is good.

TSP has always been the best stuff as far as I know.
To wash your walls and break the surface of the old paint so your new paint will adhere properly, use TSP. It's available in the laundry section and most paint stores. Works great!
I guess it depends on what's on your walls to begin with - maybe use a capful or two of bleach in a bucket of hot water to scrub down the walls.

If it were me, I'd say **** cleaning 'em (unless it's real bad) and cover the walls with Killz, an antimicrobial paint that kills nasty stuff and covers it up. They have a white primer you can use as a base coat and then paint on top of it, or you can buy it tinted in a few different colors. It's kinda expensive, though.

What to wash dark colored painted walls with?

So I've tried to wash my walls with 2 buckets. One with warm water %26amp; a little bit of dish detergent. The other with just warm water for rinsing. After I rinse the wall working in small area at a time I wipe it dry with another clean cloth but it still leaves streaks! What kind of cleaners is good? What to wash dark colored painted walls with?
Your best bet is plain old water and Microfiber cloths. Scrub with these. Microfiber cloths eliminate streaking.

If your paint is a Flat finish, you might scrub paint off if you clean it. This is true regardless of what method you use to clean. (Flat finish paint simply is not durable.) Eggshell, Satin, and Semi-gloss finishes should be able to withstand the Microfiber and water cleaning.

For very tough spots, try a gentle, plastic scrubber (available at grocery stores). The best brand I have found is called ';Dobie';. Don't use too much force, tho, or you could scrape off paint.

You can buy microfiber cloths all over the Internet. Some sites:

  • What material should I use to cover the walls of a wash room (wash rack) in a horse stable?

We're re-doing the washroom in our horse stables and are looking for advice on what we should put up on the walls. Obviously the material has to be waterproof - so typically people use OSB covered by fiber reinforced plastic, but this is expensive and given that a horse could kick it and damage it, is this a cost-effective solution - or are there better ones? What material should I use to cover the walls of a wash room (wash rack) in a horse stable?
As I am sure alot of people could agree, wood does not fare well long-term when wet. Mold quickly invades and can severely shorten the life of your wash rack/stall. I would say use cement/concrete so that water cannot compromise the strength and soundness of your barn or wash rack. Cement can have disadvantages though -- it does not protect from drafts in the colder months.

Maybe a bit expensive, but a worthy investment that will eventually pay for itself. My idea is to somehow insulate between your barn wall and wash rack. Build a drain that lets the water escape to outside the barn at the floor of the stall. Getting rubber matting for the entire stall to me does not make sense.

Rather, obtain enough rubber stalls mats to go about four feet from the concrete/cement floor of the stall. This is so if the horse kicks, he doesn't hurt him or herself, and if s/he rubs against it, there won't be any scrapes or cuts because there will be a smooth padding.

Also, if you opt for the rubber mats on the walls but not the concrete stall, the rubber mats can prevent most of the water from permeating through the wood, that is, if they are fit tightly together. You can probably get more help on what supplies you'll need once you have a plan at a hardware store, like Home Depot or Ace Hardware. On construction/design of the wash rack, you could probably contact a horse property real estate agent, or a real estate agent specializing in properties with accomodations for horses. They might be able to give you an idea of what properties they have for sale, or already sold, that have a wash rack that is both stable and serves the purpose.

Hope I've helped! ;)What material should I use to cover the walls of a wash room (wash rack) in a horse stable?
well i'm assuming that you have wooden walls for your wash rack and not cement ones since it's your own stable. OSB walls are typically good for surrounding a tack room or something that a horse wouldn't spend time in, seeing as how it's made of flaky wood chips and can easily be broken if kicked. like the guy above me said, you can cover the walls and such with the thick rubber mats that you usually would use in a stall, however those will look very odd hung up on walls. Instead of trying to buy a waterproof material to cover the wooden walls, i would highly suggest simple going out and buying the best waterproof wood base and paint to cover it. this will last and is waterproof so long as you do a good job applying it. remember you must first put primer on your wood (just talk to a local hardware store, they'll tell you what you need, it's just like painting a deck to your house.)
The most expensive, but appropriate, would be wall mats. Like the first poster said, but they do make mats specifically for walls. You will have to have them custom cut.

Painting the wood is ok, but if the walls are plank, the water will still go through the spaces.

What about cutting ply-board to fit, covering with linoleum, and caulking the seams? Inexpensive, you can get creative, and easy to replace if it gets damaged.

Instead of caulk, you could use wood moulding.
Have you ever seen those rubber mats that typically go on the floor under shavings in stalls? You could hang those on the walls, They are water proof, and if a horse kicks it, neither the horse nor wash stall will be hurt!
I agree with the second and third posts. Just wood that has been water proofed. We have that in our barn and it works great!
I agree with the 2nd post. they even make paints that coat like a vinyl. I would call a paint store and get their advice.

    Try Mr. Clean.
Cheap laundry detergent is best on flat paint and it must be like white to the color of the paint to show through...Flat picks up grease and colors easy... Tide would be good and even amounts of warm water and a cotton T shirt soft to wash rinse and dry if possible by air...too much rubbing and a chalk paste comes off the flat... I paint in white on flat...it is great and fresh...easy to wash off if you get it on your skin

Is there any paint that will completely wash off of walls?

Best way to wash down the walls in my room?

my room smells and feels kinda musty (im always sneezing!) so i'm cleaning it top to bottom... what should i use to clean the walls, especially around the trim at the bottom, that will disinfect, renew freshness, and improve smell?Best way to wash down the walls in my room?
you can dilute bleach in water and sponge the solution on the walls.Best way to wash down the walls in my room?
just plain water, as not to damage the paint. it wont do anything for odor, though. do you have carpet? a shampoo might work. as for sneezing, for a couple hundred dollars you can have your air ducts cleaned. that's the best thing you can do to rid your house of allergents. also, you might want to try an air purifier. we have a small house, and it was so musty, so we put in ceiling fans to have constant air circulation, and it took care of the problem. sound like a lot of work, but simple solutions will only mask the mustiness, and you'll spend $200 a year on air fresheners.
If you have carpet it might be that. Check under the carpet to see if it's moist and if so get rid of it. If not get it professionally cleaned or hire one of those carpet cleaners from the supermarket. You also might not be getting enough ventilation or there is too much humidity in the room. You can buy one of those dehumidifiers to get the moisture out. Some people have gotten very ill from there being too much moisture in there home so check it out.
To get rid of mildew and or mold, use bleach (it comes in different smells, so you won't have to have that harsh smell). Cover the carpet with painters plastic and use a sponge mop and a bucket, that way you can get it done without too much effort. Make sure that you open all the windows.

If you are apposed to chemicals, try wiping down the walls with a mixture of baking soda, water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (get a citrus like orange or lemon) that will freshen up the room and remove mold.
Need to be careful with bleach, especially if your walls are painted. We use a mixture of PineSol and warm water, and make sure your cloth is rung out well so the water doesn't run down the walls. Also, Dawn dish soap and water are good too.
First vacuum your walls/corners/carpeting use the attachment for higher corners/areas... Then you can mix a mild solution of vinegar/water OR bleach/water and wipe the walls down with a slightly damp sponge. Let it dry.. Also, give any windows a good cleaning and wash any curtains/blinds.... Wash your bedding and wipe down the furniture.. Vinegar/water work well on wood surfaces just don't saturate.. A slightly damp cloth/sponge will work just fine... Good luck

What can I use to wash my bedroom walls?

They are a light salmon color. I haven't washed them in about 4 years, so they are pretty heavily stained. I don't want to use anything with bleach - it would take out the color. What could I use to really get them cleaned up?

My boyfriend was a smoker too, so there is nicotine stains. What can I use to wash my bedroom walls?
I can't believe no one has suggested this yet -- ammonia! It's inexpensive and does a better job then just about anything. It has a strong odor, but if that's a problem you could try one of those charcoal dust masks.

TSP is also a great cleaner, but it microscopically etches the surface; not normally obvious to the naked eye, but may make future cleaning a bit harder. TSP is best used prior to repainting.

Try and get your bf to quit smoking... if he hasn't already. :)What can I use to wash my bedroom walls?
You can use bleach water it isnt going to take the color out. I use bleach water on everything. That is what I use to clean my walls. There is also this stuff called fabuloso that I use to clean everything with. You can use it on walls, floors and about everything. For the nicotine stains bleach water will take that off for the most part. My husband and I smoke too. I have learned that 409 eats through about anything. I usually spray the walls with 409 spray and then wipe the walls down with bleach water. It works. I put a cap full of bleach per gallon of water. Also with the nicotine stains make sure you keep your rag clean or else the nicotine isnt going to come off all the way. Good Luck!
Your Walls are stained with all that tobacco smoke. The best thing to use is what you do not want to use, bleach and I mean strait bleach. It being paint the bleach will not take the color out of the walls; it will however return your walls to their original color and vibrancy.use a sponge mop and a sponge be sure to put down a plastic drop cloth so as not to ruin your carpet. Don't forget to wear rubber gloves.

If you decide to paint instead use ';Kills'; paint it is made to cover over marker and other stains that will bleed through regular paint. it comes in a light gray color which looks very nice. You can however paint over it in any color you wish.
Get the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Those things really do work wonders. You don't have to worry about water mixing with paint or wallpaper. Just remember to use gloves while using this, as there have been cases of allergic reaction.

Always be sure to test a small spot in a hidden area for color fastness.

Another option would be to use a lightly damp cloth with a cleaning solution like Formula 409, or another all-purpose cleaner.

If you choose to repaint, get a brand that stops/blocks stains from ';bleeding'; through, because of the nicotine. That stuff is really bad about showing through new paint.
Get yourself a sponge mop (will cover larger areas and making it easier to reach to the top) and a bucket and use mild dish detergent, a small amount of it. You don't want to cover your walls with too much soap.

Get another bucket of clean water and rinse. Do not soak your walls either because this will soak to the walls.

This will be very time consuming.

    Other option is to repaint.

    :-)
Try a petroleum-based cleaner like ';Lift Off 2';. It gets almost anything out. I would also try Goo Gone or Desolv-It. I use those to get the sap out of my boyfriend's work clothes (he owns a tree service). I also used the Lift Off to get that spray foam off of our bathroom floor, worked wonders! You can get any of those products either at Home Depot or Walmart.
I would use a very diluted all purpose cleaner like Awesome or Fantastic....Test it in an inconspicuous area first..It it's flat paint, you may rub off some of the paint, satin finish you're probably o.k, semigloss or gloss and you're totally good to go.. :-)
Try Mr.Clean in a bucket with the warmest water you can stand, because I smoke I wash the walls down in the whole house at least once a year and this is what I use.
The best thing I've found for tobacco stains is rubbing alcohol. It dissolves the tar (that's what makes the stains, not nicotine) and lets you wipe it off.
well if its glossed wallpaper just use a sponge and soapy water, if its paper that would really soak up water then there's no way, only way for that is using a pencil rubber which would take ages
you just need some warm soapy water, washing up liquid works well as it has degreasing properties so will lift off the dirt, make sure u dry the parts u wash straight away afterwards
Use some nicorette and a lot of Windex.
    Paint your walls.
    just paint

How do I wash my walls inside my house they have paint on them and I don't want the paint coming off. Thanks

I did this recently in my kitchen. It took me two days to complete (the walls were really dirty, and I was exhausted!). I filled a large bucket with really, really hot water, and added a healthy dose of store-brand cleaner (like Mr.Clean). I got a new, sponge-head mop (the kind where you have to press out the excess water with the attached plastic ';flap';), and started in one corner, at the top (always start at the top of the wall, at the ceiling line, as some water will inevitably drip down). I did one continuous ';sweep'; downwards, stopping about half-way down to rinse the mophead off under very hot water in the sink, then dipping again in the bucket to start again. I was shocked (and embarrassed!) at how much dirt there was on those walls!!! By the time I finished, the whole room looked as if it had been repainted. It was well worth the sweat.

If the walls you are talking about are painted with flat paint, you have to be careful not to saturate them, or use too much (or too potent) cleaner, and don't apply too much pressure as you move the mop. You may have to go around the room a second time.

If you're only talking about a few spots here and there, then it would be better (and far less work) to spot-clean with a rag and an appropriate cleaner. I use a product called ';Goo Gone'; (available in the hardware section at WalMart, less than $3) for almost everything, from grease stains to crayon/pen marks. Let me warn you, though - once you wash away a small area, you may find that, by comparison, the rest of the wall looks shabby - and you will end up washing the whole room, anyway.

On the plus side, it's a helluva calorie burner!!!How do I wash my walls inside my house they have paint on them and I don't want the paint coming off. Thanks
To make it easier you can moop your walls lightly. My Mom does it all the time, once she used clorox,it didn't tear off the paint. How do I wash my walls inside my house they have paint on them and I don't want the paint coming off. Thanks
    use a lightly wetted sponge

use a weak dail soapy water mixture and that will make them

clean and wont pell the paint off
Mr Cleans Magic eraser dose a great job.
use warm water and a product like TSP (trisodiumphosphate)

start at the bottom and work up as dirty water will not leave streaks on the clean part.

    rinse with cool clean water
If you have a satin or semi-gloss finish, just about any cleaner will work. You might try foaming bathroom tile cleaner. It works wonders on flat surfaces.
a rag and a bucket of plain old water, that's the way I do it.
I've found out that clorox disinfecting wipes or even baby wipes work.
Magic Erase is the BEST THING EVER!!!!

Usually you don't let it get that bad, that there are clumps of mud. But i would suggest vinegar and water solution. Vinegar is a great cleaner. Leaves your walls shiny after too.

How can i wash walls with flat paint on them?

you cant wash walls with ';flat'; paint on themHow can i wash walls with flat paint on them?
Try using a gentle cleanser like dishsoap. Squirt a little into a bucket and fill with water then use an old t-shirt or other soft cloth so that you don't harm the paint. Always test it in a hidden area. nHow can i wash walls with flat paint on them?
If you are going to repaint the walls use a product called TSP.

It does a great job and prepares the walls for painting. I'm not sure but I believe they have a milder version for just cleaning walls as well. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot.
We have flat paint in our dining room. My nephew left black scuff marks leaning against the wall. The Mr Clean magic eraser took it right off. It even took off the spots that my husband had left trying to clean them off with plain water.
You can wash walls with flat paint on them. I use something like Fantastic and a cloth. Flat paint is harder to keep clean than semi-gloss or gloss. And if it is better quality paint it washes better I think.

What's the best way to wash dark painted walls?

I've tried regular wall washing methods but it leaves streaks on my walls. I have a chocolate brown wall and a dark purple wall that I can't get clean. Anyone know? What's the best way to wash dark painted walls?
It's really a two person job as you've got to work quickly and change water often. Start by mixing 2 ounces dry measure of trisodium phosphate (TSP) per gallon of water. If you're doing kitchen walls, add a 1/2 cup of ammonia per gallon of water.

Each person needs a bucket and a long-handled sponge mop....gloves and probably goggles as liquid flies and TSP isn't nice in the eyes. Start from the bottom and work up. One cleans and the other comes behind and rinses. Change the rinse water at least every wall......maybe twice if a big wall. Watch the wash water, it too many need frequent changing.

Indeed, the duller the finish on the walls, the harder they are to wash and dark colors are worse.

(owner of some purple walls too)What's the best way to wash dark painted walls?
I've used ammonia/water to wash my walls and it worked great.
    Sugar soap.

Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?

My female cat has been spraying around our house. I've only found one spot where she's sprayed but the moment you walk in our front door the smell about knocks you out so I am assuming there must be more than I have found. I want to know if a mixture of vinegar and water will damage the painted walls to try to get rid of the awful smell? Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?
Smells caused by pets can be treated with rubbing the area with a cloth dipped in white vinegar. Vinegar won't harm painted surfaces and will kill bacteria that cause the smell. If you are worried dilute the vinegar to a 1/2 solution. Test a small area of the wall first where it cannot be seen to be on the safe side. Undiluted white vinegar can be dabbed on other areas to combat smells and bacteria. Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?
The paint should be ok on it, use less vinegar than you think you should though. Any that gets on a carpet will try to bleach out the dyes there, so be careful. Use it with a sponge, that seems to work best.

Have you tried soap and water on the area first? I'd give that a try first. Don't scrub hard unless it's a gloss finish. A matte finish is more apt to come off if you scrub.

How often do you wash the walls of your house/flat?

I'm considering doing so this coming weekend. That will be the first time in 18 months......How often do you wash the walls of your house/flat?
yes it is time. after that you should consider washing the curtains and possibly the windows.

If it is too much hard work, get a wife to do it for you :)How often do you wash the walls of your house/flat?
I guess it depends on where you live. If your windows are open all the time and a lot of dust/dirt comes in 24/7, you would have to test spots by washing and see how dirty the wall is. Or if kids are constantly drawing or throwing things at the wall you will need to wash them more often.

I rarely open my windows, have very little exposed dirt outside and live away from the streets and haven't washed the walls since we painted 8 years ago!
My mother normally always used to do it at least every 3 months and get somebody in to do it. I know she also got really freaky about when it was Christmas, everything needed spring cleaning!

I'm not 3 months in my flat yet, but did wash it when I moved in. Think with this one I'm gonna follow my mum's advice
Seems that I wash the walls of my sons toy room once a week lately, ever since my wife bought him crayons.

Other than that, maybe once a year, we usually do most off the odd jobs around the house that we neglect every December when on leave, the garage, cupboards, walls etc.

When I say ';we'; I mean ';me'; but under supervision......
I pretty much never do unless there's a significant buildup of dust and cobwebs, or unless something is spilled on them. Sometimes I wipe them down to get rid of dust, but soap and water type stuff, almost never.

Good idea to do it more often, I suppose...!
You need to do it at least once a month to get rid of the dust. You do now that dust is 70% human shin.
People actually wash the walls in their homes?

    Wow!
At least once a year i.e Spring Cleaning or more often if we'll be entertaining or having a function.
I never wash the walls,my mom pays someone to do that for me!

    Diluted SpicandSpan is another option.

I mix up a solution of Murphy's Oil Soap (found in grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc. in the cleaning products aisle) and water and use an old face cloth that I wring out well so the solution doesn't run down the walls. Start at the bottom and work up. The face cloth has just enough nap to provide a good scrubbing surface. For a serious problem spot, I use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser sponge, but be careful! Don't scrub with it or it will remove paint. It's great for crayon, scratch marks and other unidentified marks on the wall.
Sugar soap is the best thing to use to clean walls. It is cheap, gentle and effective.
Try using a mop the kind with a sponge and ringer on one end you can reach everything from the floor even the ceiling. Its fun too.
I find that vim works really well for any marks. Just put a dab of vim on a wet cloth and wash the dirt spot, then resume washing the rest of the walls with a solution of very hot water and amonia if you can stand the smell of amonia. Oxyclean in hot water works well and does not smell as bad as amonia.
Simple Green works great. It worked on the walls of my parent's place and they smoke in their home.

Its great for floors, walls, etc. All you need is a rag and a bucket of water mixed with it and a magic eraser for the scuff marks. You can get Simple Green at Lowe's or Home Depot.

They won't take the paint off the walls, cause you are only using water, although I say that tongue in cheek, because if poor quality paint was used it will come off anyway, always test an area... their streak free window cleaning is the best hands down, even though you didn't ask about windows.... remember any time you do walls, use the minimum amount of water you need, wash from the top to the bottom and rinse the cloth out really often and well, so you won't get streaks running down the wall.
Im not positive about vineger, but you could try:

    floor cleaner w/ water

and vinegar would prob. be fine

MAGIC ERASER!!! IT WORKS WONDERS. ESPECIALLY ON WALLSI need to wash walls tomarrow..never did it in my life...and Need some advice how to clean?
Soap detergent that does not leave a resedue stain. And some steel wool and a sponge or rags to clean.. Always wash up -- washing down will leave streaks...
I love the magic eraser for scuff marks, they work great. Using a sponge mop will help with reaching the high areas, use warm water to break the dirt off the walls.
dont know where you live Jerry but if you can buy liquid sugar soap from your store its amazing for heavy clean up jobs worth a try
Magic Eraser works wonders and if they are commercial walls you can also get some Simple Green and mix it accordingly. Its great for floors, walls, etc. All you need is a rag and a bucket of water mixed with it and a magic eraser for the scuff marks. You can get Simple Green at Lowe's or Home Depot.
Get a product called SUGAR SOAP and brush on with soft broom and then rinse off it's easy as 123. Sugar soap can be purchased at any supermarket or hardware store
Protect your floors with newspapers or towels.Brush cobwebs and dust from the wall with a soft-bristled brush.

Fill a bucket about three-quarters full with warm water.

Add a small amount of ammonia - about as much as it takes to clean a sink full of dishes about1/4th cup- to the bucket. This will be the cleaning bucketPlace a second, empty bucket near the cleaning bucket. (You'll use this when you wring out the cleaning sponge.)

Dip a small portion of the flat face of a sponge into the cleaning bucket until it is damp.

Spread the cleaning solution on the wall with the sponge, beginning at the top and working toward the bottom. Use a ladder to reach the high spots on the wall.

Squeeze - but do not wring out - the sponge over the empty bucket after wetting the entire surface of the wall.

Blot the surface of the wall you've just cleaned to lift any further dirt from its surface.

Repeat this process until you have covered the wall.

    You can also use any
If you are washing walls that have scuff marks, cigarette smoke/stains... ETC... It's good to use a product called TSP..OR trisodium phosphate... Available at LOWE's, HOME DEPOT or any hardware store... If the walls are just scuffed/dirty... Then you can use vinegar/water.. Just don't wet the walls down too much.. Get a few microfiber towels.. Walmart or an autoparts store has them very cheap... $4 for a 12 pack.. They clean really well, are easy to wring out and can be re-used.. Wash and DO NOT use dryer sheets/fabric softener...
Magic eraser.. buy lots of them becuase they don't last long.. but works awesome on walls.. especially scuff marks.
Ammonia and water in a bucket. Start from the bottom work up. It will prevent drip marks on the wall.

By the way, if you are free tonight, look up how to spell TOMORROW.

Do I really need to wash the walls in my house? I have never done this and it is 2 story. ?

Or is it something that clean freaks do. I am clean, but never thought about the walls besides the scuffs, i get those. I never did walls growing up.Do I really need to wash the walls in my house? I have never done this and it is 2 story. ?
Make sure your paint is washable and freak away!!!!! Seriously though a good going over and your house will look fabulous. I used to wash all everything about every five years or so. Take it one room a month until it is done. Or if you are inclined git r done. Mr clean magic erasers are fabulous I love them.Do I really need to wash the walls in my house? I have never done this and it is 2 story. ?
Yes you do, a lot of germs collect on the walls since they are commonly touched, it would be a good idea to clean your walls. It doesn't have to be done every week, but a monthly clean wouldn't hurt. Especially with kids around (if you have any) it is easier for them to get sick.
It's only necessary to wash them about every 3 - 4 months. The only thing that actually needs to be taken care of on a day-to-day basis are dirty spots on the wall.
We wash our walls during spring %26amp; fall cleaning. Usually repaint every 3 years or so. But they're your walls, wash them if you feel the need, if you don't think there is a need I wouldn't bother with it.
If you have lived in the house for several years and you smoke in the house or have a kerosene heater or fireplace, then you may want to consider a fresh paint job to freshen up the space. If you find that is cost prohibitive, then you seriously need to consider washing the walls, especially in the kitchen area where a lot of cooking can really ruin the walls.
    no
You've NEVER washed the walls? They get just as dirty as the floors you know.
my fam would do it once every 2 years i'd say for the kitchen! it gets greasy in there even if you don't know it. %26amp; my grandma would smoke inside %26amp; her walls needed to be washed cause they would turn yellow. otherwise, i only ever get the hand smudges around light switches %26amp; things like that. i wouldn't start it unless you have time to finish!!! maybe paint instead
I used to when there were smokers in the home but since having a non smoking home, I haven't seen the need for it other than to vacuum occasionally and wipe around switches. I do still wash the bathroom and kitchen walls
No i never do. Sometimes around light switches the wall gets a little dirty after time and it doesn't hurt to take a wash cloth with some cleaner to get it off, but you don't necessarily have to wash down an entire wall. If a wall get's too horrible bad I just repaint it, it's faster.
I Vac my walls once a month. Dust collects on them the same as anywhere else. I do wash them in the spring with a little cleaner and a soft sponge mop. The kitchen twice a year because of cooking. If you smoke it makes the wall turn yellow with tar so you defiantly want to wash them. But yes like I said walls to collect dust so it doesn't hurt to clean them like you would anything else in your house.
clean freaks do it, only wash them if you are planning on painting
    i dont think u do
You don't have to , but they will look nicer. I have a cleaning business and the best, fastest , and easiest way to wash wall ever is by using something called a ';Sh-mop'; or I believe O'Cedar makes one also. It's a long plastic handle with a flat swivel head attatched. It comes with an elasic terry cloth piece that fits over the flat swivel head. Fill a bucket with warm water add a very little bit of mild dishsoap. Wet the terry cloth cover and start washing. It will reach very high spots, ceilings ect.
dust or vacuum them. They do get dusty. I don't actually wash them though.

Of course, I paint them frequently enough that I don't have to worry about it.
Mostly a clean freak thing, i am one. But they do get just as dirty as the floors...I hope you are cleaning those. And, in washing them, you can contribute to the inside of your house smelling better. Same effect as having your carpets cleaned. If your walls are white, and get really dirty, ( don't know if you have kids or not) they can kinda cancel out a clean look and feeling in your house.
