What is good to wash walls with?

My gas heat has left a residue on my walls and I have tried cleaning the walls with dish soap and water and had very little progress. What is good to wash walls with?
If the paint on the wall is Glossed only then you can clean it easily if it is flat paint you cant take out those stains, nothing is going to help, I would suggest to coat one layer of paint make sure it is gloss. What is good to wash walls with?
If greasy, wash with Sugar soap then rinse with water with a little vinegar added to neutralise the alkaline soap. Otheerwise wash with a softish brush (floor pan type is good) with a laundry powder dissolved in warm water. Don't use Vim as it is too abrasive, nor a scourer pad. If its a sort of sooty-smokey tinge you won't get it all out. Wash then repaint with 2 coats of a stain covering undercoat before one finishing coat. (The 2nd undercoat is the one that makes the top coat a really bright and dazzling colour)
The best cleaner for walls that I have found is Oxy Clean! I buy the powder kind and add a few scoops to a pail of warm water and wipe the walls. It takes off all stains! Good luck!
You may want to try a mild cleanser such as vim. Do not use a rough cleanser like ajax as it might ruin the wall.
If you have a smooth finish on your walls trying Mr. Clean magic erasers.. buy the super scrubbing kind and it should work wonders!
Try Murphy's Oil soap.
try hairspray. it gets off pen marks
